Bill Gates Reflects On Steve Jobs.
In an emotional interview Microsoft chairman Bill Gates speaks of visiting Steve Jobs in his last days and marveling at how well he understood the concept of brand.
Bill Gates and Steve Jobs had a complicated relationship over the years, with both men being fierce competitors in the tech industry while also having a mutual respect for each other.
Bill Gates has spoken positively of Steve Jobs in the past, praising his design sense and ability to innovate. In an interview with David Rubinstein, Bill Gates said: “Steve and I respect each other…I respect the fact that he’s very good at design.” He also said that “Steve was an extraordinary visionary, our industry will miss him.”
On the other hand, in the past, Steve Jobs had been critical of Gates and Microsoft, and characterized the company as being “boring” and lacking in innovation. Jobs also accused Microsoft of copying Apple’s ideas.
Despite their competitive relationship, when Steve Jobs passed away, Bill Gates said in an interview that he was “saddened” by the news and that “Steve and I first met nearly 30 years ago, and have been colleagues, competitors and friends over the course of more than half our lives.”

Quotes by Bill Gates and Steve Jobs
- “Success is a lousy teacher. It seduces smart people into thinking they can’t lose.” ~ Bill Gates, former CEO Microsoft
- “Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.” ~ Steve Jobs, former CEO Apple
- “I am in the camp that is concerned about artificial intelligence. First the machines will do a lot of jobs for us and not be super intelligent. That should be positive if we manage it well. A few decades after that though the intelligence is strong enough to be a concern. I agree with Elon Musk and some others on this and don’t understand why some people are not concerned.” ~Bill Gates
- “Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.” ~ Steve Jobs
- “If you give people tools, and they use their natural abilities and their curiosity, they will develop things in ways that will surprise you very much beyond what you might have expected.” ~ Bill Gates
